THE BLAME GAME (Update)

I told you so. There, I said it.

Two days before Katrina hit the Gulf Coast of Louisiana and Mississippi I told a friend of mine that anyone who didn't live 50 feet above sea level in a concrete block house should get the hell out of Dodge. As huge and powerful and fast-moving as it was, moving across relatively shallow water, Katrina was a giant "waterplow" pushing a veritable tsunami in front of itself.

Why did people stay? How many have died because of their reluctance to leave?

I understand there are some poor people who don't own cars, but did they try to get on a northbound bus? Or is the local government to blame for not enforcing a full evacuation with all the assistance at their disposal?

What I do know is this -- in the months to come, George Bush will be blamed by Democrats for whatever has happened. In a city and state dominated by Democrats, they'll say Bush was to blame. Their own mismanagment of the situation will not be admitted.

Sad. Tragic.

Update: A lot of folks were warning this not only could happen but was going to happen sooner or later. Here's a good piece that was written four years ago.
