For many, many years I've been a fan of Carlos Santana and his music. I've had the pleasure of seeing him perform live, the most recent being last night. To say he keeps getting better is something of a cliche, but true. The increasing variety of his music keeps you guessing what he'll play next. Just when you think he'll play an old standard he plays something you've never heard before.

He is a genuine human being and is especially kind to kids and always involves them in his shows. I felt a little embarrassed last night when he invited my daughter to join him onstage four or five different times and, shy girl that she is, she demurred. He kept smiling and pointing at her all night and she just smiled and waved back.

If you ever have the opportunity to see him perform, reach deep and buy good seats. It isn't any fun at a Santana concert if you aren't in the first two or three rows, so save up and do it. You'll get 2 1/2 hours of non-stop (and I mean non-stop) entertainment with music from the '60's through today; jazz, Afro-Cuban, Latin, blues, and not all of it Santana originals. Just amazing stuff.

If Santana is coming to your town (or anywhere near it), just go. You won't regret it.
