THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

Why is it that we see almost nothing on TV or in print about North Korea?

In the days of the Soviet Union and Mao's China, there were some journalistic efforts to pry open those societies in order to understand what life was like for the ordinary citizen. So why do we see nothing about North Korea?

It appears from this column by Christopher Hitchens that some "news" is trickling out of this beleaguered country (he was there), but why haven't we seen it?

Why aren't Bono, Susan Sarandon and Brad Pitt campaigning for relief efforts for those who manage to escape Kim Jong-il's gulag rather than this? Where is the UN?
