THE DANGER OF SHOWING EVERYTHING

In previous times, unsolicited "news" was looked at very closely before any real news was released. There was a journalistic ethic that said you had to have corroboration, or you didn't run with the story.

Then along came the camcorder. A video couldn't lie, right? If you saw it, it had to be true. So you now see news and even entire news programs with hours of "amateur video" being shown.

But if you see it, is it really true? Is it real?

Or might it be something else?

If this was a hoax, it was a good object lesson for our media. Maybe next time, they won't show it as soon as they get it.
